More Info on Fires

The threat that global warming presents consistently grows. Wildfires are just one side effect. This year as of October we have had 44,714 wildfires, a whopping 3,311 fires more than last year. Last year the news was filled with the Amazon fires, earlier this year the fires in Australia caused a buzz and now the fires in California have been presented as the most recent issue. Thousands have been forced to evacuate and the effects on the health and economy are frightening. Fires have consumed our lives and they are not something we can turn a blind eye to.

Despite this, forest fires normally have a purpose. Forest fires are necessary in nature as they work to clear the forest floor and break down nutrients to return to the ecosystem. Fires serve the purpose to get rid of the weak trees and make room for new healthier ones. Though, the wildfires we see now are not what we need. They are killing animals and their habitats.
